Desiigner…Is He Inspired By Atlanta, Or Just Stealing?

So far, 2016 has been good to rapper Desiigner. But will he stand the test of time?

Desiigner’s viral hit record “Panda” was sampled by Kanye West on his new album The Life of Pablo and this even lead to a deal with West’s G.O.O.D. Music.

The critics are already taking note of the similarities between Young Thug, Future and Desiigner’s flows.
Now one could make the argument that over the years a lot of the Atlanta trap rappers have basically had the same sound. The problem with that argument in this case, is the fact that Desiigner hails from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

“The bitter irony, and maybe a microcosm of Desiigner’s problem, is that he has never been to Atlanta. The rapper so easily compared to Atlanta’s heaviest rap hitters has lived his entire life in Bed Stuy Brooklyn (A neighborhood graced with its own set of rap legacies).” – Harry Krinksy – The Michigan Daily

So, is Desiigner just inspired by the Atlanta sound, or is he just straight up biting? In his opinion piece, Harry Krinsky makes the argument that Desiigner is actually guilty of plagiarism.
“There’s probably no definitive answer for why Desiigner hasn’t caught too much flack for his subtle plagiarism,” said Krinsky. “It might be because the GOOD Music moniker gives Desiigner temporary immunity from rap criticism.”
