If you live in the state of New York, it is going to be really hard to come up with an excuse not to go to college.
Qualified students in the state can now obtain two and four year degrees for almost nothing.
The state legislature unveiled a new tuition initiative for students in New York, for families who live in the state and earn $110,000 or less.
“Today, college is what high school was—it should always be an option even if you can’t afford it,” Gov. Cuomo said in a statement on the program’s inclusion in the state budget. “The Excelsior Scholarship will make college accessible to thousands of working and middle class students and shows the difference that government can make.”
The state has also tacked on an interesting requirement for the free tuition.
Any student who takes advantage of The Excelsior Scholarship must live and work in New York for the same amount of time as their degree.
