Northern Arizona University Immersing Students In Hip-Hop With Superproducer 9th Wonder

|

Record producer 9th Wonder is heading to Arizona, to school students about the intricacies of hip-hop music and culture.

Today (April 23) marks the beginning of hip-hop week at Northern Arizona University.

This is the fourth anniversary of the week, which will host a huge graffiti exhibition, a freestyle clinic from the legendary rapper Supernatural, a discussion on the N-word and a lecture from 9th himself.

9th, who is also a Harvard Hip-Hop Fellow, will apply the experience he has received as a professor at NC Central, along with lessons from his Hip-Hop career during his lecture.

The timing for the students is perfect, since 9th produced on Kendrick Lamar’s latest album DAMN.

A young professor who goes by Dr. G pushed hard to produce Hip-Hop Week at Northern Arizona University, because of the positive impact the genre had in his own life.

“Many moons ago when I was just a black kid from the Philadelphia area, I didn’t really see myself having a PhD And so being in this position, I reflect what’s got me through, and honestly I have to admit – hip-hop saved my life.” Dr. G – Northern Arizona University

These lessons and more will be explore during the week long event, which is free and open to the public, with the exception of the 9th Wonder lecture.

Hip-Hop Week at Northern Arizona University runs from April 23–28. For more information on the event check out this website.
