New Course Uses Gucci Mane's Life To Keep Students Off The Streets

Rapper Gucci Mane is one of the most intriguing characters hip-hop is ever produced.
On one hand, he is violent, he’s beaten a murder charge, sold drugs, abused women and promoted drug use and gun violence.
On the other hand, there’s the Gucci Mane who is a loving partner who is engaged to be married, a lyrical genius, and pretty much a changed man, since being released from jail in 2016 after a two-year prison stint.
Now, a doctoral student is letting people know she is highlight’s Gucci’s life in a curriculum and teaches other students how to avoid the pitfalls of the street.
Dr. Adia Winfrey has created a course called HYPE: Healing Young People thru Empowerment.

The course is a 12-session hip-hop therapy, which engages youth by presenting rap songs that address a number of mental health issues.
Problems such as depression, disruptive behaviors and more are explored through Gucci’s rap songs, as well as artists like Nas and Tupac.
So far, over 10 states have adopted the program, which helps students to set goals, process their feelings and deal with their struggles in a more constructive manner.
