The SpotiFive: Friday November 15 – City Girls, Belly Squad and More

Belly Squad – “Jumpstart”

Belly Squad serve up new heat on their eagerly awaited new mixtape “Bon Appètit,” released today. Through nine tracks the London trio, Max, Ty and Ross, weave through the Afro Swing sound they pioneered and UK rap, with the sing-a-long hooks and tongue-in-cheek lyricism they’ve become famed for. Features include Headie One on “Missing You” and Young T & Bugsey on the upbeat bounce of “Jumpstart.”

Mal & Quill – “Beat Monster”

Trading bars and livening up each others’ rhymes with absurdly catchy ad-libs, Mal & Quill have an almost telepathic chemistry. Quietly stalking the subsonic trap instrumental like cheetahs hunting a gazelle, Mal & Quill feast on the beat in “Beat Monster,” their latest single. Produced by Marc Beatmonster, who gives the track its name, “Beat Monster” finds the two Zone 6 rising stars flexing their flow arsenals, switching from triplets to halting cadences to tumbling, over-the-bar-line flows, all accented with hypnotic ad-libs.

City Girls – “TWERK” featuring Cardi B

City Girls release Girl Code (Quality Control Music/Motown/Capitol Records).  It includes features from Cardi B, Lil Baby, and Jacquees. Recently the girls released a new song, “TWERK,” with the remix version featuring Cardi B included on Girl Code. One of the most provocative female hip-hop duo in years, the Miami duo of JT and Yung Miami are the next generation of female rappers.

JULiA LEWiS – “Outta Pocket”

An enigmatic producer who uses live instrumentation, electronic sounds, and jazz theory to imbue his instrumentals with a warm musicality, Berkeley’s JULiA LEWiS (aka Benjamin Falik) is the go-to producer for the sophisticated side of Bay Area rap. Contrasting soft vibes and easy listening electric piano with overdriven bass and knocking drums, JULiA LEWiS celebrates the independent hustle on “Outta Pocket.” The single features a star turn from frequent JULiA LEWiS collaborator Rexx Life Raj and Oakland native Guapdad 4000.

Hyro The Hero – “Bullet”

2018 is a pivotal year in Hyro The Hero’s career. The hip-hop rocker, fresh off supporting label mate Wilson is proud to announce that his single “Bullet” off his RED Music effort Flagged Channel is currently #33 on Active Rock and debuted in the top 40 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs chart.
