When Nicki Minaj began dating Meek Mill, it seemed like the pair would create a Hip-Hop empire.
Meek, who is signed with Rick Ross’ powerful Maybach Music Group, is a top-selling artist who recently had the #1 album in the country with his release of Dreams Worth More Than Money.
Nicki Minaj is signed to Lil Wayne’s high-profile Young Money Records. Although the label is going through beef with its distributor Cash Money, Wayne’s imprint still claims a powerful lineup of artists that includes Lil Wayne himself, Drake, Nicki Minaj and others.
Meek started a lyrical war with Drake after he called out the Young Money rapper for not penning his lyrics for the song “R.I.C.O.” Despite an on-stage apology to Nicki for calling out her frequent collaborator on hits like “Best I Ever Had,” “Truffle Butter,” “Moment 4 Life,” and “Only,” it appears the damage has been done, in terms of Meek reconciling with Nicki’s Young Money label mate.
Apparently, Meek Mill’s apology fell on deaf ears because Drake has dropped two singles, “Charged Up,” and “Back to Back,” which take aim at the Philly rapper’s credibility. On both singles, Drake pokes fun at Meek’s relationship with Nicki. On “Back to Back” Drake is of the opinion that their bond will not last.
I don’t wanna hear about this ever again
Not even when she tell ’em that they better as friends
The fact that Meek often utilizes Twitter to voice his opinion to almost 5,000,000 followers, could be, or eventually cause a strain in his relationship with Nicki Minaj. According to stats published by Pew Research, technology is wreaking havoc in a notable amount of users’ lives:
- 25% of cell phone owners in a marriage or partnership have felt their spouse or partner was distracted by their cell phone when they were together.
- 8% of internet users in a committed relationship have had an argument with their spouse or partner about the amount of time one of them was spending online.
- 4% of internet users in a committed relationship have gotten upset at something that they found out their spouse or partner was doing online.
Those numbers are astronomical because, by 2016, there is going to be an estimated 196 million smartphones in just the United States. Do the math at 25% and it comes out to 49 million people having issues within their relationship because of direct access to a smartphone!
According to data compiled by Camp Mobile Inc., which makes an app called “Band,” 66% of youths aged 13-22 do not share their personal information online as much as they used to.
The numbers could signal a shift from public social media sites like Twitter and Instagram to private networks like Notabli and the recently launched Minds.com (which is reportedly backed by members of Anonymous).
“These statistics point to the increasing need for private networks in which people can communicate and share with select groups of people,” said Doyon Kim, General Manager of Camp Mobile Inc. “This change in the way the younger generation share information with their peers will affect the popularity and continued use of a variety of social media networks. It will be interesting to see how technology offerings respond to this shift.”
The fact that Meek has already apologized to his woman in a public setting is a real indicator that she was not satisfied with his behavior (at least in this incident).
Hopefully, one of Hip-Hop’s most powerful couples can make it through the current firestorm engulfing their relationship.
