The University of Michigan is a historic school that can claim some accomplishments, since being founded in 1817. The state’s oldest learning institution was the first in the nation to conduct a faculty-led “teach in” over the Vietnam War.
On the sports side, Michigan has had at least one player selected in the NFL Draft since 1938, a record 76 times. Last week, U of M accomplished another first. This one is probably a lot more exciting to the students than being the first to introduce “seminar” method of study.

Michael Jordan announced that University of Michigan’s Wolverines will be the first football team in history to officially rock the Jordan Brand during games. Up until this point, only basketball teams were wearing the sneaker made famous by His Airness.
It’s great marketing for the Jordan Brand since Michigan also has the longest streak for 100,000-plus attendance for their football games, stretching all the way back to 1975.
College sports is big time business. Last month, the University of Michigan dumped adidas in favor of Nike, thanks to the corporate giant’s $169 million dollar package. The University inked a 15-year deal that begins in August of 2016 when Nike begins producing the apparel for all 31 of the U of M’s athletic teams.
Fans will be able to purchase licensed Michigan gear produced by Nike starting next year as well. Thanks to the deal, the University of Michigan will rake in about $11.3 million dollars per year. It is also the biggest deal in college sports history, topping Notre Dame’s ten-year $90 million dollar contract with Under Armour.
