A Look At Three High Fashion Brands That Hip-Hop Loves

Students over at The Michigan Daily sifted through the many brands that debuted some new styles during Paris’ Fashion Week and came up reviews of three notable brands.

Their choices show that Hip-Hop remains on the cutting-edge of fashion too. All three of these brands have been previously name checked by rappers like Lil Uzi, Future, Kanye West, Young Thug, Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky and others.

This line is being overseen by former Dior designer John Galliano. Michigan Daily reviewer Anay Katyal seemed to be impressed with Galliano’s eclectic designs, that were inspired by 19th century English fashion. The excitement around this line has labeled fashion heads to call in “Margiela Mania.”

Saint Laurent

French brand St. Laurent debuted a 1980’s themed line during this year’s Fashion Week in Paris. While this line may garner a buzz simply because the St. Laurent’s strong brand identity, student Jordan Stern was far from impressed. He trashed the line for taking inspiration from a decade with over-the-top fashion styles. “Overall, the collection would have been much better off in the costume closet on the set of the CW’s failed series, ‘The Carrie Diaries,’ than on the Parisian runways.”

Rick Owens

Designer Rick Owens did much better in the eyes of student Hannah Sparks. Not only was the launch presented in an unconventional manner (in a warehouse with EDM blaring), but the line presented by Rick Owens was different too. “Fair warning, when wearing these clothes your ‘cool’ factor will be off the charts,” said Hannah Sparks.
