How Steve Madden Went From Jailbird to Billionaire

The life and times of shoe designer Steve Madden will be chronicled in the upcoming documentary “Maddman: The Steve Madden Story.”
Steve, who is a household name in hip-hop circles because of his pricey shoes and sneakers, has become a household name thanks to his innovative designs.
But the road to fame wasn’t easy.
Just like hip-hop entrepreneurs master P, Too $hort and countless others, Steve Madden’s career began in the trunk of his car.
That’s where he started his company, hustling shoes until he was in control of a billion dollar business.
But soon, unbelievable legal troubles came.
As chronicled in the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street,” Steve Madden got caught up in the Oakmont Stratton scandal, a pump and dump financial scam that eventually cost him $9 million and a two-year stint in prison.
“It was terrible, it was bad as you can imagine,” Steve Madden said.
Now, Steve Madden hopes to help the inmates he once served his prison time with by offering jobs, and even stock in the publicly traded company.
The entire drama is chronicled in “Maddman: The Steve Madden Story”
